So as I sit in my lovely abode I look up at the calendar only to realize that in ten days I'll be another year older. Life DOES go by quicker as one gets older but there are many rewards. It seems crazy that thirty plus years have gone by and that I have been what I can actually call a professional musician during most of that time. (For about two months believe it or not in the early 90s I sold calling cards and yes I was terrible at it). Now mind you not all of the gigs I did were shall we say, ideal and every musician out there knows exactly what I'm about talking about but at this point in my life I am playing and recording with some of the best musicians that I can recall. I don't for one minute take for granted the opportunities I've been given. Speaking of opportunities...
This past December marked my eleventh year doing the annual run at the Cafe Carlyle in NYC. It's always great being in "The City" during the Holidays seeing friends and family AND getting paid for it! While in NY I also recorded drums and percussion for vocalist Abigail Rockwell. Her CD should be out in a few months. Back in La La Land (no relation to the movie), a couple of weeks ago I was asked to play a track on singer/composer Mark Winkler's upcoming release. That was a great thrill because it has some of my drumming heroes on it including famed Jazz Master Jeff Hamilton and the ever amazing Michael Shapiro. Next week Steve Tyrell and us Boys play at our "home away from home" Catalina Jazz Club for our bi-annual stint. I'll be posting more dates as they come along so please keep a lookout on the SCHEDULE page. AND (if you're lucky), I may even get another podcast in there during the next couple of weeks. Thanks for stopping by! Kevin
