AOTM Episode Thirty One
After almost seventeen years Jon Allen is leaving (has left), the Steve Tyrell Band! He takes us through what he actually did and didn’t do during that time as well talking about his law school plans and what it took to get prepped for all of that crazy business. Pianist Gary Matsumoto and guitarist Grant Geissman join in on the conversation adding the momentum needed to complete this episode because Kevin was busy eating. Lyman with his gift of gab basically saved the podcast, (just ask him).

AOTM Episode Thirty
Hey hey hey it’s the 30th episode of All Over The Map and because NOBODY demanded it and after about twenty-two years, the boys are finally BACK! And since they are NOT original in their collective thinking at all they did this episode AGAIN at you guessed it, Catalina Jazz Club. They reminisce about The Jazz Cruise 2019 from which they had recently returned and tell stories of hanging on the ship with some of the best musicians that Jazz has to offer. They also talk about the week before the cruise, which included three gigs in TX and then it was off to Atlanta, South Carolina, and then BACK to Atlanta where fellow drummer and podcaster (www.workingdrummer.net), Zack Albetta showed up to check out a show. It was crazy few weeks to say the least!
Lyman shares the good news that he is going to be Best Man for Jon Allen’s upcoming wedding in August and once again they make the annual trip to Italy and Kevin talks about the other places he visited while in Europe. (Don’t be jelly). And big changes have come to the Steve Tyrell camp… AND don’t forget, if you like us OR hate us (we don’t care either way, we just crave the attention), please visit our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/alloverthemappodcast/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel or give us a rave review on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-over-the-map/id996286878?mt=2. AOTM Episode Twenty Nine
DISCLAIMER: The volume on the first 30 seconds of this particular podcast (after the intro), sucks because Kevin doesn’t know how to operate the new recording software on his iPhone. So there is that BUT it does get better so hang in there. PS You’re welcome.
The boys are back! It’s been a minute but Lyman and Kevin are coming to you dear listener from (for the second time), Houston! They had a whirlwind weekend first flying to OKC and performing at a new place called The Jones Assembly, http://www.thejonesassembly.com/. If you’re in the area you MUST go! They have incredible food, wonderful musical acts and the venue is nothing short of fantastic. Steve Tyrell and the band were treated like royalty as they always are by The Three Amigos; Fred Hall, David Hornbeek and Ray Hibbard. The following morning they flew to Houston and performed at the Stafford Center. Lyman complains about how much he hates built in GPS in cars and Kevin talks about seeing his old friend Bernadette Hilario and her beautiful family. She was for many years the road manager with Doc Severinsen while Kevin toured with him. Lyman and Kevin then reminisce about a recent show that they played at the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach, CA. Kevin and his girlfriend get a serious hook up from friend and fan of the band Cathy LaFever to go see John Williams conduct The LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and the following week Lyman also goes to the Bowl but to see the great Harry Connick Jr. The boys do a recording for singer Dan Olivos’ upcoming release and Lyman brags about his first ever arrangement for horns and is SO proud of it he can’t even remember the title of the song. Brilliant. If needing drums and/or percussion for your next recording project please check out Kevin’s studio. Click the link here. Also be sure to check out Lyman's band, Black Market Reverie. Episode 28 comes to you Dear Listener (for the second time), from the Emerald City! AOTM Episode Twenty Seven
Once again Lyman and Kevin find themselves driving to LAX. Shocking, we know. Lyman discusses his displeasure for the renovations being done at LAX and their new policies. Kevin promotes his guest appearance on Zack Albetta’s Working Drummer Podcast, (http://www.workingdrummer.net/) and Lyman has a new CD along with singer Renee Myara. It’s a mixture of jazz, classic French pop, Americana and their own original songs. The name of the band is called Black Market Reverie (https://www.blackmarketreverie.com/) and their debut release is entitled "The Rainy Days". Kevin finally took the plunge and invested into revamping and upgrading his home studio, http://www.kevinwinard.com/studio.html. Be sure to visit his page to hear samples of his work for hire! And oh yeah, Kevin started Weight Watchers.
Lyman hires Kevin to record some drums for a song that Lyman produced for actor David Haydn Jones. David is best known for his recurring role as Mr. Ketch on the hit show Supernatural. The song is “Makin’ Bacon” and you can find it on CD Baby, https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/davidhaydnjones and on iTunes. All of the proceeds go to David’s favorite charity, The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America! AOTM Episode Twenty Six
It’s only taken five months but Lyman and Kevin have another podcast! Kevin talks about his trip to Steve Tyrell’s cardiologist in NYC and they both share the amazing experiences that they had the week prior on the Jazz Cruise 2018. There was fun to be had, librations to be consumed and music, music, MUSIC to be heard!
Kevin turns 53 and Lyman has a new CD coming out featuring him playing ukulele, bass and singing. Kevin does not, however he IS considering revamping his home studio. So there is that. AOTM Episode Twenty Five
Buona Sera! Hey hey hey, it’s the twenty-fifth episode of All Over The Map and as promised Lyman and Kevin recorded it in BEAUTIFUL Toscana, Italia at the gorgeous Monteverdi, Tuscany! (https://monteverdituscany.com/)
The boys decided to try something new and asked many of the folks who stayed the week at Monteverdi as well as some of the employees to join in on the festivities and talk about some of their favorite moments. As always, there’s plenty of ball busting to go around and also there were some very special guests like Lauren Tyrell who just so happens to be the boss’s daughter, her husband Nathan who is one of the funniest people on the planet and brand spankin’ new newlyweds Glenn and Rene Allan! The Chief Financial Officer and all around good egg, Steve Abbott explains the origins of Monteverdi and Kevin espouses the talents of his girlfriend’s driving techniques. After all she IS Asian…Francisco Trejo who works with the owner of Monteverdi (Michael Cioffi), takes things up a notch by offering to hire another band for next year’s events and THEN proceeds to spill his wine all over Kevin. Good times indeed! Lyman chimes in on Jon Allen’s marvelous navigational skills and Jon’s better half Abigail shares her favorite experiences. The lovely Karin Lindenberg from Germany warms our heart by contributing a beautiful and poignant moment and finally, Bob Mann may or may not have pushed his wife down a flight of stairs. It’s noisy and raucous BUT an amazing time was had by all! We hope you enjoy… AND don’t forget, if you like us OR hate us (we don’t care either way, we just crave the attention), please visit our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/alloverthemappodcast/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel or give us a rave review on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/all-over-the-map/id996286878?mt=2. AOTM Episode Twenty Four
After a whirlwind trip to Ohio the boys decide to try something new: Bookend Podcasts! That’s right folks, they did back to back podcasts. (Not really, they were five days apart) The previous episode had them driving TO LAX. This episode has them driving FROM LAX back to the Valley. Simply incredible.
While in baggage claim Lyman out of the kindness of his heart buys Kevin a Starbucks coffee but gets the order wrong (of course), and then expects Kevin to carry it to his car when he knows damn well how much luggage Kevin has. So typical of Lyman… They regale about how incredibly well treated they were by the people who hired their boss man Steve Tyrell and the band and cover the weekend’s festivities on and off the stage. Lyman goes to a Mud Hens baseball game the first night without Kevin because that’s how Lyman rolls. Kevin talks about reconnecting with old friend Scott Lavender and his wife (music director for Johnny Mathis), from his Captain & Tennille days. And being the topical intellectuals that they are, they give a blow by blow of the McGregor/Mayweather fight. The boys give a shout out to their super duper listeners Cathy LaFever and Cat Ellen. Kevin then exposes lifelong friend Todd Pierce who has a Disney podcast with 20,000 listeners per month on how he won’t help promote All Over The Map. Some friend indeed… Be sure to check out Episode 25, which will be coming to you from beautiful Toscana, Italy! AOTM Episode Twenty Three
The boys are back! Episode 23 takes place on the way to LAX where Lyman and Kevin get caught up on the summer’s events. Lyman is the busiest bass player in Show Business and Kevin actually has four days of recording sessions in a row. (It’s a Festivus Miracle!).
Lyman and his family take a vaycay to D.C. While back home in Los Angeles he does a couple of personal recording projects and considers starting his own record label. To combat this Kevin isn’t quite as productive but is proud of the fact that his goatee is getting longer. They then both talk about their next big trip, which just so happens to be in Italy! And yes, they promise THIS time to do a podcast! The guys finish off this episode by talking about LA traffic and the potholes (pun intended), of this season of Games Of Thrones…Nerd alert! AOTM Episode Twenty Two
The gang’s all here! That’s right dear listener, in episode 22 Lyman and Kevin come to you from Fairfield, CT and are joined by the illustrious trumpeter Bijon Watson, the lovely Quinn Johnson, real estate mogul Bob Mann, Jon Allen makes a quick appearance and once again, our boss Steve Tyrell makes a cameo explaining why Kevin is such a pain in the ass.
Lyman goes on and on about his travel woes in getting to the gig. Kevin and Lyman discuss their previous week of performing with Diane Schurr and Ernie Watts. The gang then discuss where they plan to eat the next day (hey, it’s important!), and Lyman recounts the time Kevin over ordered at a truck stop in Indiana. Kevin sees Wonder Woman and Bijon talks about Gal Gadot’s various roles in movies. Steve Tyrell talks about his general routine after finishing a performance, his radio show on KJAZZ 88.1 and then plays on homage to the late, great Lew Soloff. Quinn talks about his new album entitled “Trio Con Clave”, which is fantastic by the way, and Kevin recounts how he missed a flight due to “unforeseen” circumstances. AOTM Episode Twenty One
Vegas Baby! That’s right folks Lyman and Kevin come to you from downtown Vegas! (Just remember: What happens in Pacoima stays in Downey…). They MAY or MAY not had been over-served the previous night. Who are we kidding, they were both suffering from the Booze Flu as Lyman’s Mother likes to call it but through THE POWER OF MUSIC, after playing the show they come back stronger than ever. They discuss the passing of the great Don Rickles and they also talk about the previous weekend where they were once again at Feinstein’s in beautiful San Francisco. (There’s a trivia movie quote in the podcast so if you can answer the question you will win ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!). The great jazz tenor saxophonist Rickey Woodard stops by after the show to say hello to y’all and the boys give tons of shout outs to friends and fans. Not shockingly, Kevin loses yet another bet to Lyman.
This is the first time in the history of all of their twenty-one episodes where they decide to break things up and do it multi-city! That’s right folks, through the magic of modern technology the very next day they fly to Amarillo, Texas and continue the episode resulting in having a surprise guest sign off! AOTM Episode Twenty
Ladies and gentlemen: Alert the media...It's our twentieth episode! And what better way to celebrate it than by recording it in a place where we've been time and time again. That's right, the world famous Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. In this not-so-historic episode Lyman serenades you dear listener (and me), with a little ditty on his ukulele and he sings too! Kevin discusses the phone interview he did with the wonderful Robyn Flans on her podcast "Robyn Flans Drummer Interviews” and since he was so ill prepared when recording said podcast and couldn’t remember the link here it is for you: https://www.spreaker.com/user/rfdi/kevin-winard.
Lyman and Kevin weather a storm LITERALLY while driving back from Miami with mutual friend Tia Shaffer in tow. Lyman went to his sister's wedding in Hawaii and Kevin once again goes to Costco. AOTM Episode Nineteen
Lyman and Kevin are nothing if not creatures of habit. Yes, yes, yes they know that lately they haven’t exactly been podcasting from ALL over the map but they are in fact, admittedly lazy. Hey what do you want for free? Having said this, they ONCE again come to you from their home away from home, Catalina Jazz Club in lovely and culturally diverse Hollywood, CA. Kevin turns 52 years old (ouch!), and Lyman talks about a burlesque gig he recently did. They both reflect on the sudden loss of the incredible artist Al Jarreau and also converse about Kevin’s annual NYC trip. Steve Tyrell then pops in to say hello and promotes his radio show, which airs 5-8PM PST Mon-Fri on www.kjazz.org. AND the owner of Catalina’s herself, Catalina makes a cameo!

Episode 18 brings you dear listener back to the green room of Los Angeles' premier jazz club Catalina Jazz Club. It's been four months since the last podcast which took place in Seattle but my oh my how much has happened and how much the boys have traveled! Listen in won't you to how Kevin forgets to mark down where they parked Lyman's car, how he misses a flight to Santa Rosa because of "unforeseen circumstances" and how Lyman describes yet another trip to South Korea and why China isn't an ideal vacation destination. Kevin touts his redesigned website, www.kevinwinard.com and oh yeah one more thing: Steve Tyrell and the guys went to Tuscany! (So there is that).

AOTM Episode Seventeen
In Episode 17 Lyman and Kevin come to you from beautiful Seattle, WA! (Actually Eastlake to be exact). Almost every year Steve Tyrell and the guys do a few shows at the world famous Jazz Alley. The crowds are always great but what makes the trip even cooler is that the band gets to stay at the Jazz Alley Condos instead of a typical hotel which as we all know translate into a great hang. The guys talk about how they spent their days traversing the Emerald City and of course, the food that they ate. Kevin turns Lyman on (no not in THAT way), to Tim’s Cascade Chips only to find out that Lyman isn’t really into the salt and vinegar flavor because it doesn’t have enough vinegar in it and then Kevin reluctantly concurs. Oh and Kevin shockingly discovers that Lyman doesn’t like iced coffee! Lyman sings the praises of his son’s prowess on the basketball court and Kevin reveals he has zero talent regarding ANY sport whatsoever.

AOTM Episode Sixteen
Episode 16 has Lyman and Kevin sitting outside a beautiful $30 million estate up in the Pacific Palisades waiting to perform with Steve Tyrell for a benefit for the Navy Seals. Yes, THOSE Navy Seals! They interview their old pal Steve Cotter who is also on the gig. Steve is one of the premier jazz guitarists on the LA Jazz Scene and he talks about his recent vacay to Paris. Kevin of course interrupts him ad nauseam and still blames the French for their contribution to the Holocaust. He also manages to squeeze in a little promo for his vocal CD, which came out three years ago. Then it’s back to Steve as he shares with the guys his musical upbringing, the various artists with whom he has worked and his early influences. Also, Quinn Johnson adds some shall we say, colorful additions to the interview. Special thanks to Lyman for doing his best to keep the interview on track but alas, it is to no avail.

AOTM Episode Fifteen
Can you believe it?! It's the 15th episode of All Over The Map! And to think they said it wouldn't last, (whoever THEY are)...In order to celebrate this little known tidbit Lyman and Kevin actually have come up with a themed podcast (their first one ever), and that theme is Media Blitz! Yes, dear listener it's all things media: Television shows, movies, books and of course music. So take an aural gander won't you and check out what the guys are into. And speaking of books, be sure to look into a fascinating one by Todd James Pierce entitled "Three Years In Wonderland". Todd just so happens to be one of Kevin's best friends and not only is he an all around good egg but he is also an award winning author!

"When you walk through the garden..." In episode 14 Lyman and Kevin come to you from the home of HBO's hit series The Wire—that of course being Baltimore, Maryland. It's pretty much the Lyman show as he shares with you, dear listener, his 40th birthday trip to New Orleans and even more impressive his five day tour of Seoul, Korea! They both reflect on the loss of the incredible musician, artist and superstar Prince and Kevin talks about how he almost ruined a great hang for the entire band at the world famous Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
